Artemesia

Requirements: Full sun, well drained soil. 

 

Size: 1-10 ft W x 1-3 ft H

 

Description: Beautiful silver foliage makes this groundcover stand out. Blooms in summer. 

Bugleweed

Requirements: Partial shade to full shade. 

 

Size: 1-3 ft W x .5 ft H

 

Description: A low-growing creeping evregreen that can survive in dry shade. Rapidly carpets the ground with showy foliage. Can be invasive. 

Creeping Jenny

Requirements: Full sun to partial shade. 

 

Size: Up to 30ft W x 6" H

 

Description: Low growing and rampant-growing groundcover that may become invasive. Highly popular. Rounded yellow-green leaves. 

Hen + Chicks

Requirements: Full sun to light shade. 

 

Size: Differs according to variety. 

 

Description: Hardy succulent plant that reproduces quickly. Multiple varieties available, each with different colour and size. 

Sweet Woodruff

Requirements: Partial shade to full shade.

 

Size: 1-1.5 ft W x .5-.8 ft H

 

Description: Technically an herb, woodruff is a vigorously growing groundcover that has sweet white flowers in spring. Easy to take care of. 

Ice Plant

Requirements: Full sun, well-drained soil. 

Size: 2-4 ft W x 3-5" H

 

Description: A drought tolerant plant that's great for filling in unused spaces, this plant brings a bright splash of colour to any part of the garden. A succulent groundcover, it will bloom from summer-fall. 

Irish Moss

Requirements: Partial shade, well-draining soil. 
 
Size: 12" W x 1-2" H
 
Description: Herbaceous perennial turns bright green during cooler weather. Excellent as groundcover or between stepping stones. 

Lamium

Requirements: Part shade to full shade. 

 

Size: Differs according to variety.

 

Description: Also known as dead nettle, lamium has colourful foliage and flowers. Excellent groundcover for shady areas. Multiple varieties available. 

Myrtle

Requirements: Partial sun to full shade.

 

Size: Differs according to variety. 

 

Description: One of the hardiest evergreen groundcovers, myrtle may become invasive. Lavender blue or white flowers in spring. Fast spreading. 

Thyme   

Requirements: Partial sun to full shade.

 

Size: Differs according to variety.

 

Description: A fragrant groundcover, thyme is popular as an herb and as a groundcover. Fast growing, creeping varieties are excellent as a groundcover between steppings stones. Multiple varieties available.

Sedum

Requirements: Full sun to part shade, well-drained soil.

 

Size: Differs according to variety.

 

Description: Also known as stonecrop, a plant that practically thrives with neglect, creeping sedum will grow just about anywhere and can become invasive. Versatile, colourful, and drought-tolerant.

Scotch Moss

Requirements: Full sun to partial shade. 

 

Size: 15-30 cm W x 1-2 cm H

 

Description: An extremely popular groundcover, scotch moss forms a moss-like bright green carpet with tiny white flowers in spring. Fast growing, it is excellent for the nooks and crannies of a garden. 

Speedwell

Requirements: Full sun, well-draining soil. 

 

Size: Differs according to variety. 

 

Description: Also known as Veronica, this plant has masses of small flowers that smother the ground. A great weed-suppressing groundcover.
